This scene depicts a maiden with flowing golden hair leaning over a rose-covered balustrade to tie a token of her favour to a knight's sleeve. Wearing chain mail, a cloak, and helmet and carrying a lance, he is about to ride through the portcullis of the castle. Other knights can be seen beyond the gate. This painting was followed by The Accolade in 1901.
The tapestry is beautifully woven with a heavy textured finish and contains 12% wool.
This tapestry has a rod pocket incorporated in the lining on the back for hanging.
