Description
This tapestry is based upon the 1630 map by Henricus Hondius (1596 - 1651). The individuals depicted in the four corners of the map are Julius Caesar, top left, Ptolemy, top right, Gerard Mercator, bottom left and Jodocus Hondius, the father of Henricus on the bottom right. The four scenes outside the maps show the four elements, earth, wind, water and fire.
