Description
This tapestry is based upon the life size fresco of nine heroes and nine heroines that decorate the great central section of La Manta castle in Piedmont (c1420). Figures chosen from the middle ages, from the bible and from legends are equally aligned on the walls. The best known character is Godfrey de Bouillon who led the first crusade in 1096 and was later proclaimed King of Jerusalem in 1100. Above the figures are their heraldic shields. All wear fascinatingly ornate clothes rich in detail. NEW This tapestry has fine metallic effect threads woven into the design to create subtle highlights.
